What is the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)?
If you've used a Windows computer, you may have encountered the infamous Blue Screen of Death. Formally known as a Stop Error, it is a safety screen that appears when Windows encounters a critical error from which it cannot recover.
:(
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.
Why does it happen?
BSODs are essentially the computer's way of "crashing" to prevent data corruption or hardware damage. Common causes include:
- Faulty Hardware: Failing RAM or overheating components.
- Driver Issues: Incompatible or corrupted software drivers.
- System Files: Corruption of essential Windows operating system files.
- Malware: Viruses that interfere with core system processes.
What to do if you see one:
- Note the Stop Code: Usually written in all caps (e.g.,
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED). This is key to troubleshooting. - Restart your PC: Sometimes a single crash is a one-time glitch.
- Check for Updates: Ensure Windows and your drivers are up to date.
- Check Recent Changes: Did you just install new software or hardware? Try removing it.
